Mstislav Leopoldovich Rostropovich (1927-2007) es un eje vertebrador de una parte importante de mi actividad relacionada con el violonchelo. Desde el punto de vista de la investigación, soy autor del libro Conversaciones con Mstislav Leopoldovich Rostropovich (2025), la mayor aportación escrita hasta la fecha en cualquier idioma acera de este músico fundamental en el siglo XX. El corazón del libro está formado por el estudio de su estilo interpretativo a través del análisis del repertorio inspirado por él, también post mortem. Todo lo que sé acerca de Rostropovich y acerca del sonido del violonchelo están en esta monografía orientada de un modo muy especial a los violonchelistas y a los amantes del violonchelo – no en vano, el subtítulo del libro es Tratado sobre el sonido del violonchelo. De alguna manera, creo que el libro constituye en sí mismo un mapa del tesoro, un método para la construcción de un solista excepcional, pero también incluye el mapa de los afectos propios del maravilloso instrumento que es el violonchelo. Como todo libro que propone un viaje serio, requiere de un compromiso notable. Por ello que se trata de una fuente de carácter científico pero que excede en mucho lo que ello significa, en un género de difícil clasificación. La enunciación y consignación de fuentes e información especializada es de tal envergadura que el libro se presenta en dos tomos de más de 800 páginas cada uno. En fase de publicación, el libro ya se ofrece en forma de conferencias monográficas y se ha diseñado un Curso Intensivo sobre repertorio inspirado en Rostropovich, con trabajo violonchelístico y de estudio intelectual para chelistas interesados, con alguna aplicación práctica hasta la fecha. Mstislav Leopoldovich Rostropovich (1927-2007) is a backbone of an important part of my cello-related activity. From the point of view of research, I am the author of the book Conversations with Mstislav Leopoldovich Rostropovich (2025), the greatest written contribution to date in any language by this fundamental musician in the twentieth century. The heart of the book is formed by the study of its interpretative style through the analysis of the repertoire inspired by it, also post mortem. Everything I know about Rostropovich and about the sound of the cello is in this monograph aimed in a very special way at cellists and cello lovers – not in vain, the subtitle of the book is Treatise on the sound of the cello. Somehow, I think the book constitutes in itself a treasure map, a method for the construction of an exceptional soloist, but it also includes the map of the affections of the wonderful instrument that is the cello. Like any book that proposes a serious trip, it requires a remarkable commitment. That is why it is a scientific source but that far exceeds what it means, in a genre that is difficult to classify. The enunciation and consignment of sources and specialized information is of such magnitude that the book is presented in two books of more than 800 pages each.
