Durante los últimos años, el violonchelista andaluz Juan Aguilera Cerezo (1983) viene realizando una intensa labor en el campo de la música contemporánea que se ha traducido en una notable ampliación del repertorio, especialmente del violonchelo a solo. Sus interpretaciones han sido agradecidas y aplaudidas por compositores consagrados en diferentes países de todo el mundo, como E. Irshai, Ch. Bochmann, Y. Yerkanian, E. Dündar, V. Sarafhyan o E. Tanguy.
El sello discográfico NIBIUS ha publicado recientemente un doble CD que recoge algunas de estas aportaciones actuales al repertorio para violonchelo solo, habiendo recibido elogios de la prensa más especializada, como la recomendación dorada en la revista Melómano. Esta actividad permanente e incesante ha dado hasta la fecha más de 40 obras de las que Juan Aguilera es dedicatario, pertenecientes a las más variadas y contrastantes estéticas que la actualidad compositiva ofrece al mundo.
Estrenadas prácticamente todas las obras, grabadas otras tantas, el moderno repertorio para violonchelo se ha ensanchado por la energía del violonchelista español abierto a casi toda vanguardia compositiva, en base a un trabajo colectivo caracterizado por la exhaustividad, la confianza, la excelencia y la férrea voluntad de dotar a compositores de plena libertad para expresar sus ideas musicales de forma incondicionada.
La crítica especializada (Revistas Scherzo, SullPonticello) se han hecho eco de esta actividad, con reseñas de alto valor recomendatario, firmadas por autoridades periodísticas como P. Yáñez o J. Gómez Alemany. De él se ha dicho Es un músico en estado de gracia (F.M. Quintero). Ha tocado en los principales festivales nacionales enfocados hacia la música y estéticas del tiempo presente (Madrid, Tres Cantos, Sevilla, Córdoba…).
En la misma línea de actuación, Juan Aguilera ha inaugurado el Aula Permanente de Música Contemporánea del Conservatorio «Pep Ventura» en Alcalá la Real, en la que ofrece recitales de música actual con el objetivo pedagógico de relacionar al público más joven con creaciones de su tiempo, de forma que puedan desarrollar afecto y apego por la música del tiempo presente.
Del mismo modo, es presidente de la asociación cultural Medea Abrahamyan, con el objeto social de promover la creación musical contemporánea y rescatar enorme cantidad de repertorio desconocido y de notable calidad.
Compositores de todo el mundo han compuesto para Juan Aguilera. España (Ó. Prados, S. Báez, D. Ruíz, F. Martín Quintero, R. Otero, S. Blardony, entre otros), Suiza (A. Vinogradova), Turquía (E. Dündar, M.A. Uzunselvi), Armenia (V. Sharafyan, E. Hayrapetyan), Francia (Ch. Frionnet, E. Hieaux), Estados Unidos (S.L. Kalcheim, S. Grill), Finlandia (T. Heinonen), Eslovaquia (E. Irshai), Hungría (L. Huszar), Rusia (A. Komissarov), Australia (M. Wolf), Grecia (D. Katharopoulos, A. Tsiartas), Italia (G. Taccani), China (X. Hu) entre muchísimos más. Además, ha realizado el estreno en España de obras de importantes compositores como Boris Tchaikovsky, G. Chitchyan, E. Hayrapetyan o Martun Israelyan. Ha rescatado y grabado obras poco recepcionadas de compositores como E. Mainardi o S. Tsintsatze.
Está en posesión del Diploma de Estudios Avanzados (bajo la tutela de Ch. Heine), con máximas calificaciones, en la Universidad de Granada. Ha publicado monografías con RCA Editores o Samos Music y actualmente profundiza en sendas investigaciones sobre el ingente repertorio inspirado por Mstislav Rostropovich (Rusia) y Medea Abrahamyan (Armenia).
Forma dúo con el pianista Santiago J. Báez Cervantes, y sus actuaciones han sido aplaudidas en distintos puntos de la geografía nacional, y con quien no solo comparte la promoción de la creación contemporánea, sino que aborda también todo el repertorio consagrado para violonchelo y piano. Del mismo modo, junto al violinista Javier Gregori, funda el dúo Naptha, con el que indaga el pequeño pero interesantísimo repertorio para esa formación.
Nacido en Jaén, aprendió los fundamentos de la música en su hogar. De naturaleza libertaria y anárquica, nunca se ha sometido al camino propuesto por sus maestros, aun respetando y agradeciendo sus consejos, por lo que su formación siempre ha sido, en esencia, autodidacta. Obtuvo, eso sí, Premio Extraordinario Fin de Carrera en el Conservatorio Superior de Córdoba en sus estudios de violonchelo, bajo el ministerio de J.A. Camargo. Paralelamente, recibe primera mención del Premio Extraordinario en la Licenciatura de Derecho en la Universidad de Jaén.
Diariamente comparte y amplía su formación junto a los niños del Conservatorio de Alcalá la Real. Es miembro de Jaen Ciudad Habitable, colectivo de formación social basado en la construcción grupal del conocimiento ciudadano. Toca un soberbio instrumento construido por David Bagué y un arco de Thomas Koenig.

He forms duo with the pianist Santiago J. Born in Jaén, he learned the basics of music at home. Of a libertarian and anarchic nature, he has never submitted to the path proposed by his teachers, even though he respects and appreciates their advice, so his training has always been, in essence, self-taught. He did, however, obtain the Extraordinary End of Degree Award at the Superior Conservatory of Córdoba in his cello studies, under the ministry of J.A. Camargo.
At the same time, he received first mention of the Extraordinary Prize in the Law Degree at the University of Jaén. He is in possession of the Diploma of Advanced Studies (under the tutelage of Ch. Heine), with maximum marks, at the University of Granada. He has published monographs with RCA Editores or Samos Music and is currently conducting research on the enormous repertoire inspired by Mstislav Rostropovich (Russia) and Medea Abrahamyan (Armenia).
On a daily basis he shares and expands his training with the children of the Alcalá la Real Conservatory. He is a member of Jaen Ciudad Habitable, a social training collective based on the group construction of citizen knowledge. He plays a superb instrument built by David Bagué and a bow by Thomas Koenig.
